The Doll Test. They redo this every so often, and the results remain the same. The person who screams a slur at you is an obvious threat, but when the whole world keeps telling you that you don’t matter, and showing you that you don’t matter, that’s the poison that sinks in.
One of the best tricks is getting people to believe the battle is on a single front - “Oh this doesn’t matter because X matters more” - actually it all matters- day to day survival, food and health care matters, legal rights, protection and laws matter, media narratives that inform how people act matter, your personal choices and way of thinking matters.
this is so heartbreaking but real. the little boy didn’t even know why the little white doll was nice other than her being white.
“because it’s black…”
“because she’s white…”
i mean, even the language. subtle, subconscious, all of that. and still painful.
BRHood: TAGGING THIS FOR KISU. MAYBE NOW HE’LL SEE WHY WE DO THIS. WHY WE MAKE A BIG DEAL WHEN IT’S “JUST CARTOONS.” WHY WE NEED TO SEE RACE.
BECAUSE OF THIS RIGHT THE FUCK HERE.
IF YOU DON’T GET IT AFTER THIS, I QUESTION YOUR INTELLIGENCE.
Ugh. The part where she says “Which doll looks like you?” The look on the girl’s face… :’(
